the reader guards the leader

a dry and humourless individual of indeterminate age and gender sits in a darkened room with fingers steepled, perusing my blog, and raising the occasional sceptical eyebrow.

that's how i picture my blog reader, while i write. the d. and h. indiv is never impressed, often snorts at my flights of fancy and is gunrally quite grumpy.

it's a seymour's fat lady type situation.

you other bloggers reading this, what is your imaginary reader like? do tell..

I think my imaginary reader is peaceful and slightly disinterested and very very sceptical. he/she casually scans through, occasionaly smiling at some intresting turn of phrase, but mostly condescending.

The eyebrows, have left the building. We do not have any imaginary readers. We have real readers. So we do not imagine our readers. We are li' 'at.

The real readers are very few.

I have an imaginary reader. A perfect audience,a reader who is able to fathom, the exact extent of the depth and dimension (not more, not less, than there actually is)of the thought expressed, and then having seen through me through my words, unleashes a smile that is feeble but certain. To the onlooker, the expression conveys pride from comprehension and is even a wee bit condescending. Her understanding of my mind being just as intense, exact. Perhaps, it satisfies a need for perfect communication, understanding.

What makes me raise eyebrows -psmith mentioned condescension too! Arrey!

my imaginary reader (MYI) would read what i write and discuss what i wrote over coffee. MYI would not read to get impressed, but to generally know what i feel about certain things. MYI is occasionally cheerful and smiles. MYI wears a blank expression otherwise and is as lost in this universe as i am. MYI is currently on a desultory trip of blogs and is reading yours!

GDPOIR... Calling Elvis... Did he leave the building, can he get to the phone...

Imaginary reader.. hmm.. well don't need one .. since I don't blog..I do it in the old style..( P.D. ;) .. so no need to picture the picturesque.

Fat Lady is out there, "sitting on this porch all day, swatting flies, with her radio going full blast." ask Zooey who she is ? :)) ..

I have a gaggle of teenagers reading my blog - says something? But other than that I see my blog readers as quirky and smart and fun or why would they read my stuff?

@#$!- am still untoasted cereal, fruit and high fructose corn syrup. am also the irrawaddy river dolphin.
don't go spilling any beans. mmm beans..

d- that was a clever escape.

srin- sneering? are you sure? maybe IR's actually grinning and it just looks like a sneer. like sidhu while facing the bowlers (except he was grimc. not grnn. was probably thinking of what he'd say as a commentator in the years to come?)

shreyas- dyou have a blog? where is it?
or, as i strongly suspect, do you have an imaginary blog, read by an imaginary irascible reader, who's neighbours make tomato pappu and hate him?

king, gypsy - at least you know that gaggling teens are reading your blob. i never have any idea who's reading this. i know that the ol fliends for whom this was originally started are not reading this anymore. (HMPH!)
just going by the commentors alone is probably not a good idea. there's a huge, shy population of readers out there..
hence the IR.
